Level 2 Food & Beverage Service

This programme is designed to develop your skills in your chosen career at our state of the art new build catering department and purpose built restaurant in the town centre at our new T1 campus with excellent transport links.

The course covers the following areas:

All aspects of Food and Beverage service, with sessions both practical and theoretical.

Visits to International and local Restaurants and Catering establishments.

Opportunities for learners to be involved in internal and national culinary competitions.

Taking part in in-depth live demonstrations including regular updates in front of house trends.

You will gain valuable practical experience working in the restaurant at Tameside ONE which belongs to the college and open to the public.

Completing work experience with F3 at MCFC.

You will also be developing your food and beverage skills. You will be learning how to prepare the restaurant, set up the bar, serve drinks and food as well as and run the restaurant with live customers, all to a high standard. Not forgetting, you will also be building those key employability and industry skills and online portfolio.

This course has been designed to give both practical hands on skills and an understanding of the catering industry with food safety and health and safety for the catering industry also included. The course is for enthusiast’s people and individuals looking to take the next steps towards a career in the catering industry.

Hospitality industry is an exciting and challenging career. The course will combine core skills such as communication, organisation, planning as well as practical skills. The course will give you the knowledge and skills to progress to Level 3 diploma in Hospitality Supervision/ work.
Your weekly practical timetable would be made up of a theory, practical and RWE (Realistic working environment) classes using brand new facilities and state of the art equipment to produce high quality products covering all aspects of the industry.

Your theory sessions are made up of underpinning knowledge questions taught by experienced tutors.

Learners must have;

 ●  To qualify for onto this course you have to be 16-19, be available for a full weekly timetable and be prepared to work at professional standards. You will also be invited to an interview to assess your interest, aptitude and suitability to the course and a level 1 catering qualification.

 ●  Good communication skills.

 ●  A hardworking approach towards the industry

 ●  Hospitality uniform will be required to be purchased, to a specific standard and style (guidance given)
Assessment is ongoing throughout the duration of the course. We will ask you to complete practical assessments, which are recorded in a basic workbook that includes a brief written task in relation to the catering Industry Health & Safety and communication.
? Once you have successfully completed this course, you will then be able to progress on to the level 3 diploma in Hospitality Supervision.
