T Levels are new full time courses which follow on from GCSE’s and will be equivalent to three A Levels. The two-year technical qualification is made up of two components, both of which need to be successfully achieved.
The Core Component:
The core content is designed to offer sufficient knowledge and skills for the learner to apply in a variety of contexts related to the industry and those occupational specialisms linked to this T Level. The core content is the building blocks of knowledge and skills that will give a learner an understanding of the industry and job roles. At the same time, it will develop the core skills they will need to apply when working within the industry.
The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the engineering industry and the sector and you will cover topics such as:
● Maintenance, installation and repair requirements
● Fault detection and diagnosis
● Isolation and resolution methods
● Communication for maintenance, installation and repair activities
A learner will have the choice of studying one standalone Occupational Specialism as listed below:
● Light and Electric vehicles
This qualification is for you if you are a 16-19-year-old learner, who wishes to work within the engineering industry.
This technical qualification will suit someone who is not yet employed or looking to enter the industry post mainstream education. The structure of the qualification is designed to give learners the of knowledge and understanding across the Engineering industry but also equips them with necessary occupational and core skills to enter the industry.
The learner journey will include a placement within the engineering industry as part of their course to gain skills and knowledge whilst there.
Applicants will need 5 to have attained GCSE’s at Grade 4 including maths and English.
● You will be assessed by a variety of assessment methods including discussions, displays, case studies, presentations, extended written work and practical assessments whilst on placement.
● There is a core knowledge test which is externally assessed and a core employer set project which is externally assessed both in the first year.
● In your second year you will complete the Occupational specialism employer set project which is externally moderated.
● A mandatory part of your course is 315-350 hours of external work placement
This qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and skills needed to work for working in the engineering industry, which will prepare learners to enter the industry through employment or as an Apprentice.
The completion of this qualifications gives learners the opportunity to progress onto higher education courses and training and is a recognised qualification at Universities.
Industry placements give students an opportunity to develop their practical and technical skills in a role directly relevant to their vocational Engineering course.
They also give employers the chance to ensure that young people are developing the skills and experience that industry needs.
Industry placements will form part of the new T Level course which will give the learner a technical alternative to A levels.
