Emmerdale star opens College craft shop

Dovestones and Pathways students celebrated last week as their very first shop opened to the public at Tameside College.

Emmerdale’s own PC Swirling cut the ceremonial ribbon and welcomed the first customers into the shop just in time for the Christmas season. Actor Andy Moore who plays PC Swirling said: “My daughter is a student here at Dovestones so I know how hard the students and staff have worked to make this dream a reality. It’s been a pleasure to be part of something that is really going to benefit the Dovestones students.”

The students, who have already demonstrated their entrepreneurial flair by selling crafts on a Christmas stall in Tameside College’s canteen, are selling a range of crafts in their shop including cards and hand-made gifts in the lead up to the festive season. As well as making most of the gifts themselves students even had a hand in naming the shop, choosing via a vote, DP Crafts short for Dovestones and Pathways Crafts.

Head of Foundation Learning Rebecca Bromley-Woods said: “We’re thrilled that we’ve had the opportunity to open a shop at the College, the students are really excited to start selling their creations and get a taste of entrepreneurship. With the help and guidance from staff during open times the students will grow in confidence and gives them a sense of independence, readying them for life after they finish College. There has been a buzz around Tameside College about the shop for some time so we hope that staff, students and the local community enjoy picking up some truly unique Christmas presents for their family and friends at DP Crafts.”
