Crafty way to show off new college

Tameside College go Minecraft-style and create an amazing 3D replica of their new Advanced Technologies Centre that is part of their multi-million pound redevelopment plan, VisionTameside.

The replica was based on images from the architect and shows all the main features of the Advanced Technologies Centre, which even has real working showers. Computing tutor, Paul Mather decided to create the design as he wanted to show the building in an exciting and different way that would interest potential students who could be studying in the Advanced Technologies Centre.

The new building will house Engineering and Computing and include facilities such as, Electronic and Engineering Science, Hydraulics, CNC and Advanced Manufacturing, CAD and CAM, Programmable Logic, Rapid Prototyping, Additive Layer Manufacture, Medical and Forensic Science Laboratories and top of the range Computing Laboratories.

The Minecraft design took Paul and his two sons a total of 14 hours to create. Paul was inspired by former student Tom Cassell, also known as the Syndicate Project on YouTube and commented; “The Computing Department wanted to make images of the building appeal to the younger people, who will be considering studying at the new Advanced Technologies Centre in a few years’ time, so what better way to do this than to create a modern, fun and interactive design. I was happy to create the Minecraft-style design with the help of my sons, who are Minecraft fans. It took us a lot of hours to create, but after seeing the final 3D gaming-style design the hours were all worth it.”
