Annual Pay It Forward Event

Annual Pay It Forward Event

Staff and learners from ‘Entry into Employment’ (E2E), organised a visit to help with the operation of The Tameside Animal Shelter at a time of year when they struggle for volunteers.   The idea of the ‘Pay It Forward’ Event is to give the gift of time to work for a community cause.

The learners were involved in re-painting kennel areas, walking the dogs, feeding the chickens and sweeping the shelter yard. It was a cold and wet winter’s day and mucky work but everyone got stuck in. The shelter staff were very impressed with the young people’s enthusiasm and hard work and appreciated all the effort that was put into the visit.

Student, Michael Lanahan, said “I loved it, it was great fun. Matthew Croft commented, “I enjoyed spending the day helping the homeless animals.” Leon Boyd found it difficult because he wanted to take some of the dogs home, but added, “I got a good feeling about helping others."

The Manager from the Animal Shelter, Jeanette McGraw praised the students and said, “The learners were fabulous. They worked really hard, were really interested in the animals and had lots of questions to ask.  It was a great help.”
