Chinese New Year

The Bistro at Tameside College took on an oriental theme in order to celebrate Chinese New Year recently. Chinese style meals were served by Level 1 Catering students to the usual packed out restaurant. Diners anticipated a real show as restaurant owner Linda Lee introduced the staff from Rainbow 88 in Cheadle Hulme, who performed a traditional, Chinese Lion Dance. Their staff played instruments as a Chinese dragon filled the room and told the story of the lion through dance. Staff and students were very impressed with the display and enjoyed the variety of food on offer.

Entry Care and Entry CACHE students visited China town in Manchester to join in the Chinese New Year celebrations too. Jessica, Adil, Dawn, Shauna and Daniel had a wonderful time exploring the markets within the Chinese community. They also visited an ‘All you can eat’ buffet to get into the spirit, sampling traditional Chinese food. Jessica said ‘I had a lovely time .The food was nice, I liked everything.’ Daniel and Adil enjoyed the supermarkets and noticed how different they were to Tesco and Asda because they saw live crabs! Dawn and Shauna said they both had a fabulous time in China town. Course tutor Kathryn Coyle commented, ‘The learners all behaved impeccably and a good time was had by all.’
