Future Jobs Fund

As part of the 2009 Budget speech, the Government announced details of the Young Person’s Guarantee (YPG) which offers additional support for 18-24 year olds who have reached 6 months unemployment. The offer includes:

• Support to take an existing job in a key employment sector via
pre-employment training and a job subsidy paid to the employer
• New jobs created through the Future Jobs Fund
• Work focussed training of 3-6 month duration
• A place on a ‘Community Task Force’ delivering real help within their local community.

Tameside College have committed to taking 45 people through the Future Jobs Fund. Applicants were invited to attend a short Business Skills course run by the Work Focussed Training team who offer similar courses to those made redundant or who are unemployed. This course helped to refresh their existing skills to equip them for the job and for the interview. Areas covered included confidence, assertiveness, communication skills, customer service skills, interview techniques and Microsoft Office 2007 IT skills.

Future Jobs Fund employees have been receiving substantial support throughout their employment contract in terms of Literacy and Numeracy.Candidates are also currently undertaking the Business Improvement Techniques NVQ, where they learn how to show initiative in implementing practical skills and techniques to improve working practices.
