Pride of Tameside Celebration Evening

The colleges "Pride of Tameside" campaign which has been running in recent months culminated with a celebration in Ashton Civic Hall.

The aim of the campaign which hit the streets of Tameside was designed to change people’s perceptions of young people and their contribution to society. Within the campaign, the College highlighted the outstanding achievements of young people who live in the borough to counter stereotypes played out in the media which often focus on the negative side of youth culture.

The  young people that have featured in the various adverts and billboards placed all around the borough received their awards from the Worshipful Civic Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Sullivan  in recognition of their achievements.  Several staff members were also singled out for praise on what was a truly inspirational event.

Also present on the evening was celebrity Chef Simon Rimmer, and representatives from Land Rover-Jaguar and Mercedes Benz. They celebrated the achievements alongside the families and friends of the participants of the campaign.

The evening started and concluded with performances from Hyde Clarendon Platform Theatre Dancers and the catering students were on hand to prepare and serve refreshments.  One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of a metre long ‘Pride of Tameside’ cake produced by the college bakery department.
