Summer College

Local high school pupils raised their educational aspirations at Tameside College’s Summer College giving them an insight into the range of courses available.

The year 9 pupils attended various workshops including Hair and Beauty, Catering, Bakery, Motor Vehicle and Sport. The four day sessions involved practical activities set in realistic work environments across college. Other year 9’s visited Altrincham Ice Rink and Hollywood Bowl taking part in activities that highlight the enrichment programmes.

To get a complete taste of college life, the student social space was available so the young people could play pool, table tennis and play games on the large screen Wii system.

On the last day, everyone including tutors attended a presentation in the Courtyard Theatre. Each pupil received a Certificate of Achievement from the Principal, Peter Ryder.

School Links Leader Kevin Davis said, “This year’s Summer College has proved to be the best. We have seen over 60 Year 9 pupils attend the event and feedback from the young people has been fantastic.”
