Young Baker Claims 2nd Place

Tameside College Level 2 Bakery student Allison Atkins won second prize in the National finals of the Warburtons Young Baker of the Year competition held at the Reebok Stadium. Allison had already taken part and won the regional finals of this competition and was entered into the National Finals competition, where she competed against young bakers from all around the UK. Allison collected £500 second prize for her bread ‘Heritage’ that was presented to the Warburtons panel of Bakers which included Executive Director Brett Warburton.

Course tutor Steve Salt was extremely proud of Allison’s achievement and commented “Allison has overcome a lot of personal problems but despite this she has always attended the course well and has shown great commitment and determination in everything she has done, she is well focused and has shown a maturity above her years in the way she has handled herself both in college and in the competition, she will go far in life if she continues to go on the path she is on.”

Allison could not believe she had come in second place and when she knew she would be receiving £500, she was over the moon. She went on to say “I just want to say thanks to my tutor, Steve Salt who has influenced me a lot and to Tameside College who have provided me with such an amazing experience.”

Allison is now concentrating on completing her Level 2 in Bakery and is becoming increasingly confident in her bakery skills.
