Royal British Legion Celebrates 90th Anniversary

Tameside College hosted the Royal British Legion’s black tie dinner to celebrate their 90th Anniversary. There were over 50 tickets sold prior to the event which included VIP guests the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Warren Smith, Principal Peter Ryder, The Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Jean Brazil and her consort Mr Sydney Brazil. The event was organised by Tameside College’s Level 2 NVQ Catering students whose hard work was applauded on the night.

The event started in the Courtyard Theatre at the Ashton Centre and included entertainment from the 1036 Squadron Bury Air Cadet band. They were accompanied by Laura Iddle, who sang a number of songs along with Patrick Jones who delighted the audience by playing the bagpipes.

The event concluded in Reflections Restaurant where all the guests enjoyed a 4 course meal cooked and served by the students at Tameside College.

David Forbes, County Vice President of the Royal British Legion commented “I would like to pass on my personal thanks and say congratulations on a job well done to your students for all their endeavours made during and prior to the event. They are certainly excellent Ambassadors for Tameside College, you must be very proud of them.”

There were also speeches made by the VIP guests followed by an auction and raffle. The night turned out to be a great success and the event raised £2,100 for the Royal British Legion.
