David Wins Silver

Tameside College Catering student David Amesbury won second place as he claimed the silver award in the prestigious North West Inter-College competition, the 'Eric Walker Trophy'.

The event which was held at Blackburn College saw David competing with seven other contestants from colleges in the North West. It was held by the Association Culinaire Francaise North West Committee. Competitors had three hours to prepare, cook and serve two portions of the classical dish, Trout Meniere Doria and a freestyle main dish using the specified ingredients list for Duck Cassoulet.

David, 17, commented "I didn’t expect to get in the top three and to be awarded the silver award is pretty great. I wouldn’t have been able to do this without help from my tutors at Tameside College."

In addition to winning the silver award, David has been informed that he could represent the North West at the National Escoffier challenge in London later this year, if the winner is unable to attend for any reason.

David is currently focused on completing his NVQ in Professional Cookery and is putting his experience to good use at Tameside College.
