The Legion's 90th Anniversary

Tameside College catering students hosted a Black Tie Dinner in aid of The Royal British Legion’s 90th Anniversary celebration.

A gourmet dinner was held at the College training restaurant, Reflections, where students prepared and served a number of delicious courses to the special guests including, the Lord Lieutenant of Manchester and the Civic Mayor of Tameside.

The evening was rounded off with musical entertainment in the college’s Courtyard Theatre, including an excellent performance from professional bagpiper, Patrick Jones. To help raise funds for the worthy cause the students organised and ran a raffle and an auction, managing to raise a staggering £2,100.

Principal Peter Ryder and Food and Beverage Lecturer John Holden, officially presented the cheque to the Royal British Legion. To show their appreciation, Mr David Forbes of the British Legion later visited the college to present certificates to all the students who were involved and personally thanked them for the funds they had raised.

John Holden commented, “The students and the team of lecturers involved did a magnificent job. The fantastic amount raised on the night was totally unexpected, all credit goes to the hard work of the students and the teamwork displayed during the event. Everyone is very proud of their achievements”.
