A presentation took place at Shop Direct Group’s National Distribution Centre in Shaw to celebrate the achievements of several staff.

The Workplace Learning programme delivered by Tameside College tutors, Vic Karmazyn and Dominic Myers saw staff presented with their NVQ Level 2 in Warehousing & Storage and Beginners IT certificates. The courses have been a great success at the site and are a testament to the long standing partnership between Tameside College, Shop Direct Group and USDAW Union.

Tameside College Deputy Principal, Jenny Worsdale, attended the event to congratulate the warehousing staff and to thank the USDAW representatives for their hard work and dedication in helping Tameside College make this programme a success.

Learning Centre Coordinator, Carl Sutcliffe, has been the driving force behind the NVQs, along with tremendous support from Site Convenor, Mandy Owens, and the Union Learning Representatives. All the Union Learning Representatives have vigorously recruited warehousing staff onto the programme and from the initial pilot group of twenty there are now approximately 140 staff with the qualification.

Carl said, “It has been quite an achievement all round. Congratulations to everyone who has achieved the qualification and thanks to Tameside College for their help and support”.

Senior managers from both Shop Direct and USDAW Union were present to celebrate the hard work of all the staff and to find out more about the personal development and the business benefits the training and qualifications generate.
