National Apprentice Week

The Carpentry and Joinery department at Tameside College held a Trade Fair in aid of National Apprentice Week.

The event was well represented and included exhibitors from Benchmark, Festool, Hitachi, Howdens and Stabila. The aim of the Trade Fair was to show the local business community what the Carpentry and Joinery department at the college can offer in relation to work-based learning. The occasion also provided a great opportunity for the students to widen their knowledge about the tools of the trade.

Local company Howdens, staged a raffle on the day for everyone who opened a store account with them. Former Copley High School pupil, Alex Toon, was the lucky ticket holder and received a full set of Marples Chisels.

Carpentry student Alex, commented, “I found the event very informative and I really enjoyed the wide range of power tool demonstrations. I’d like to thank the staff who organised the Trade Fair and winning the raffle made the day even more special”.

Carpentry tutor Carl Shaw, said, “The high standards of the learners really stood out which helped create new links with the local employers. The team are now hoping that the success of the event will generate new apprenticeship opportunities in the near future”.

The college staff who organised the event all agreed that the day was a resounding success and would like to thank all the exhibitors involved.
