Olympic Dream

Congratulations to Droylsden Academy student Rebecca Tunney for playing her part in the best women’s gymnastics Olympic performance in decades!

The team; Beth Tweddle, Hannah Whelan, Imogen Cairns, Jennifer Pinches and Rebecca scored 170.495, landing them an overall sixth place position and marking the highest woman’s team result in over 80 years of Olympic competition.

At 15 years old, Rebecca is also the youngest and smallest member of the 2012 GB Team, but that hasn’t stopped her creating a big impression on everyone, including some Royal spectators…

Rebecca posed for pictures with Prince William and Prince Harry before ending an unforgettable week sat next to the Duchess of Cambridge (Formerly known as Kate Middleton) to watch fellow gymnasts Louis Smith and Max Whitlock win silver and bronze medals in the pommel horse final.

Who knows what the future will hold for the Droylsden Academy student, but hopefully she will be one to watch out for at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
