Manchester Museum Project

First year BTEC Extended Diploma in Photography students collaborated with Manchester Museum to produce an exhibition of their work in the Museum.

The students were asked to create images in response to the collection at Manchester Museum; produced in the studio on black & white film, and printed in the darkroom.

In small groups they were given the opportunity to view additional collections behind the scenes by Curators from Egyptology, Entomology, Zoology, Numismatics, Ethnography and Archaeology.  They were able to gain insight into how museums work and an understanding of archives, typologies and collections.

The resulting images reflect personal, political and contemporary responses to the collection through a diverse range of styles and concepts.
