Students back to where their life began

Six Tameside College students took their first breath at Tameside Hospital, now 18 years later they are back, working as part of the Hospital staff.

Tameside College has developed a partnership with Tameside Council, Tameside Hospital and Pure Innovations. This partnership has been developed to bring the Supported Internship to Tameside College students; this will give students the opportunity to enhance their skills in a real working environment.

Tameside Council has provided the funding needed to support this internship and Tameside Hospital agreed to let the College students spend nine months in work placements, carrying out real jobs such as; housekeeping, porters and even preparing and dispatching meals to patients. The Supported Internship will help the students enhance their skills in career planning, money management, maths and English skills. On completion of the course, students will achieve a full work-related qualification.

An employee of Tameside Hospital said; “I’ve never known such a polite group of young people. They always come in to work with a smile on their face, which cheers patients up. All of us here at the Hospital are extremely pleased with the work the students do. Well done to you all.”

These Tameside College students aim to gain long term employment; all partners wish them all the success in finding a paid job and success in their future careers.
