Mountains of items donated for Rucksack Project

The Health, Social Care and Early Years Education students and staff at Tameside College did their part for charity this Christmas and helped homeless people by collecting for the Rucksack Project.

The College students have been gathering donations which include; sleeping bags, woolly hats, gloves, scarves, socks, soup and flasks, all of which will help keep a homeless person warm and nourished during the winter months. Staff and students from across the College have supported the project and made donations.

A total of 40 rucksacks were made from donations made by Tameside College students and staff. Health and Social Care student, Sean Mayo said; “I cannot imagine having to live on the streets in this cold weather, so I donated some bags of clothes”
Tutor Fiona Ainsworth commented; “Something as small as a bar of soap can make someone’s day and hopefully we have helped make some people’s Christmas a little better! We were blown away by the response to the appeal and the generosity of the students and staff. Some students who have nothing themselves donated items as they felt they needed to help in some way!”

The Rucksack Project was founded in 2009 and has since helped well over 10,000 homeless people and continues to raise awareness of homelessness. The rucksacks that staff and students from the College donated were delivered to Barnabus which will be distributed to homeless people around Greater Manchester.
