Partnership is recognised with top business award

Tameside College and Tameside Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are celebrating their success at a recent regional business awards ceremony this week. The partners received the Public Sector Skills for Business Award for their Supported Internship Scheme at the Skills for Business Awards 2016.

The Supported Internship Scheme was launched by the government to help young people aged 16 to 24 with learning difficulties or disabilities find work placements. Tameside College work in partnership with Pure Innovations, Tameside Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Tameside Council to find suitable work for the students. The Trust provides placements for 10 students at a time for four days per week, providing on-the-job training with expert coaches to develop their communication and money skills. Pure Innovations then support trainees into paid jobs with the Trust or identify other jobs, developing an employment pathway for each person.

Amanda Bromley, Head of Human Resources at Tameside Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Along with our partners at Tameside College we are delighted to have won the Public Sector Skills for Business Award at the Skills for Business Awards 2016. The initiative has been a huge success benefiting the Trust, our patients and our staff.”

Jackie Moores, Principal of Tameside College, said: “Tameside College are delighted to be judged number one for public sector skills development together with Tameside Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in recognition of our partnership. We believe we are stronger together and are proud to work with our local NHS Trust to ensure we meet the Trust’s training needs. Together we are working to create local job opportunities for local people and to ensure that we meet the workforce development needs of Tameside Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Our students benefit from access to high quality professionals and work experience across the wide range of professions that a large successful Trust provides.”
