Food studies department hosts annual industry evening

Tameside College brought together industry professionals to celebrate work placements for students within Greater Manchester. The evening was an opportunity to express thanks to companies that have given Tameside College students invaluable experience across a range of sectors as well as encourages other local firms to offer students work experience.

John Holden, food studies teacher and work experience coordinator for the food and hospitality department at Tameside College, said: “Work experience is something that we are very passionate about here at Tameside College. The students benefit from getting real-life work experience in a professional environment and it helps employers raise their profile within the sector and raise awareness of opportunities with their organisation.”

Riccardo Maiolani, manager of the Joshua Bradley pub and restaurant, said: “The Joshua Bradley has built a strong working relationship with Tameside College since opening in 2008. During that time we have recruited both part-time and full-time students direct from the college. We have also hosted open days and given talks on the working environment at the Joshua Bradley. Since the recent introduction of the work experience programme this has benefited and supported the college students in experiencing a true working environment, both front of house, meeting customers, and working back of house within a team. The week long programme gives the students the experience and confidence to improve their knowledge of the hospitality sector.”

Guests included, long-time supporters of Tameside College students: The Joshua Bradley (part of Hyde’s Brewery), Almond Family Pubs, No29 Coffee House and Delicatessen, Mr Cooper's House & Garden by Simon Rogan, Pot Kettle Black Café  and Staff (Recruitment) Oldham.
