College have flippin’ good time at Fun Palace Fair

Tameside College’s food and hospitality team attended the very first Fun Palace Fair in Tameside to teach people how to flip the perfect pancake. The event, which was hosted by Tameside Libraries and Complete Forensics, incorporated a range of activities from local clubs and organisations that included: DJing, climbing, dancing, indoor archery, rocket making, circus skills and bricklaying.

After teaching over 200 children and their parents how to make and flip pancakes and flambé crepe suzette, the team had a special visit from Fun Palaces Co-Director, Sarah-Jane Rawlings who had the last lesson (and pancake!) of the day with food studies teacher, Ray Jones. She said: “I never knew how to make pancakes before and always wanted to learn. Thanks to the food and hospitality team from Tameside College I can now make the perfect pancake, which is what Fun Palaces is all about, learning new skills whilst having fun in our local communities.”

Ray Jones, said: “It’s been a good day and everyone has really enjoyed making and trying our pancakes and crepe suzette. It’s great to get out into the community like this and teach people the skills that our students learn at college. I think we have inspired a few future chefs here today for sure!”
