College celebrates new fitted interiors partnership

Due to an increased demand for fully qualified kitchen, bedroom and bathroom fitters with a boom in the construction of houses, Tameside College have launched a CITB Level 2 Fitted Interiors course.

The course, which was launched in September 2016, is offered by only two FE colleges in the North West and aims to give students more career opportunities in the construction industry after they have finished college.

On the course, students are taught how to professionally install kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms as well as complete carpentry, fitting and plumbing, which when combined allows them to build a domestic interior from start to finish.

With increased opportunities for up-and-coming professionals in this area of construction, Tameside College has teamed up with TKC, a leading trade supplier of kitchen and bedroom supplies in the UK on a new recruitment campaign. The campaign promotes the benefits of apprentices to over 2000 of TKCs’ kitchen, bedroom and bathroom fitting clients including bespoke frameworks to suit every individual business.

TKC has also donated kitchen and bedroom supplies to Tameside College as well as a technical guide to help support apprentices on their course.

Chris Hazelhurst, Commercial Director at TKC, added: “It’s in our interests to ensure future generations are both competent installers and happy to recommend TKC products. We’re proud of our partnership with Tameside College and to be giving something back to the local community”.

Dean Donelon, carpentry and joinery teacher, said: “I am very pleased we have launched this bespoke course to provide training to the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom fitting industry. The first year students are doing really well and with the support we have received from TKC and their generous donations, we’re confident that the students will go from strength to strength.”
