Students lend helping hand to baby charity

Health and social care and childcare students at Tameside College have raised £200 for charity Bliss, which supports families caring for premature and sick babies.

The students have held four events to raise money for Bliss which included; a sponsored leg waxing, a sponsored walk around Stamford Park, a raffle prize draw and a coffee morning.

The students were involved with the events as part of their entry level course to help them gain experience of arranging events, raising money and working with organisations outside of the college.

Bliss works with hospitals and local NHS centres to make sure that the care delivered to premature or sick babies is the best it possibly can be. They also work with parents and carers to provide them with support whilst their child is in premature care. Donations help towards caring for babies and buying machinery etc.

Sobia Haque, teacher in health, social and early years, said: “The students have done an amazing job of raising so much money. They have worked so hard, all for an amazing cause. The experience they have gained from this work will be invaluable to them in the future.”

Olivia Wellock, early years student, said: “It’s been great to raise so much for Bliss. Without them, many babies may not survive at all so it is a very important cause. There’s been a lot of hard work but it’s worth it for the charity and to gain experience on the course. I’m very pleased with the result”.
