Food students ‘fantastique’ visit to Reims

Bakery and catering students from Tameside College have visited the famous city of Reims in northern France to learn more about French culture, food, drink and attractions.

Reims, in the Champagne region of France is well known for its food and drink with many famous brands originating from the city. It is also of great historical significance as the cathedral is a UNESCO world heritage site.

The four day long trip took in sights such as: the Canadian National War Memorial; the famous Tattinger Champagne vaults underneath the city; the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Reims, Fossiers biscuit factory and Deleans chocolatiers.

Steven Lee, bakery teacher at Tameside College, said: “The students, who all have a passion for their industry, absolutely loved the trip. They really enjoyed seeing and tasting some of the amazing food in France and also getting up close to the processes that produce them.”

Sam Street, hospitality student at Tameside College, said: “It was such a fantastic trip. I really liked the trip to the Fossiers biscuit factory where they produce the famous pink wafers and the champagne vaults were just something else. I’ll definitely be incorporating some ideas I have brought back into my work now”.
