Level 2 Award in Welding Skills Term 2

This level 2 course can be taken in one of the following disciplines.

Level 2 Award in Manual Metal Arc (MMA) Welding

Level 2 Award in Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding - Aluminium (3268-02)

Level 2 Award in Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding (3268-02)

Level 2 Award in Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welding (3268-02)

The unit is designed to enable candidates to demonstrate welding skills typically found in industry and associated underpinning knowledge to a level that will enable them to complete welded joints in standard welding positions and prepare them for undertaking qualifications at NVQ level 2 and at level 3.

Practical assessment 1 - Produce a butt weld in the PA flat position

Practical assessment 2 - Produce a multiple-run tee fillet in the PB horizontal/vertical position

Practical assessment 3 - produce a lap fillet weld in the PF vertical-up position

Practical assessment 4 - produce a tee fillet weld in the PF vertical-up position

Practical assessment 5 - produce a butt weld in the PF vertical-up position

Knowledge assessment 6 – know the Process and Health & Safety requirements for the chosen process
The course is in our fully equipped welding workshop which consists of 12 welding bays incorporating MMA, MIG, TIG

The skills gained will be at industry standard.
- Already welding and looking to upskill or successfully having achieved a level 1 in their chosen process.

One to one interview with course tutor to discuss your current skills level and make sure the programme is right for you to achieve your goals.
Assessment is through Destructive and Non-Destructive testing techniques to include:

Macro Etch, Bend , Nick Break and Cupping test

Underpinning knowledge is completed by Oral/Exam

Grading is Pass/Fail
On completion of these qualifications candidates may progress into employment or to the following City & Guilds qualifications:

If you are aged 19-23, meet the unemployed criteria, or earn less than £23,104 annual gross salary, and already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, tuition fees will be waived.
If you are aged 19-23 and don’t meet the unemployed criteria, and already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, tuition fees are payable.
If you are aged 19-23 and do not already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, full fees are payable.
If you are aged 24+ and meet the unemployed criteria, or earn less than £23,104 annual gross salary, tuition fees will be waived.
If you are aged 24+ and don’t meet the unemployed criteria, or you earn more than £23,104 annual gross salary, tuition fees are payable.
