World Book Day 2013

World Book Day 2013

Tameside College celebrated World Book Day in style this year with fancy dress, competitions and free book tokens.

The day started with the college Principal, Peter Ryder, reading the popular Grimms’ fairy tale, The Gingerbread Man, to children in the college Nursery.

To help capture the children’s imagination, the Principal was accompanied by a special visitor… a member of the college library staff wearing a Gingerbread Man fancy dress costume.

At the end of the day, the Nursery group all received their own copy of the book to enjoy at home, which echoes the main aim of World Book Day by encouraging the pleasure of reading at a young age.

College Principal, Peter Ryder, commented: “It was great to have the opportunity to share a story with the children in our nursery. I hope they will get the same pleasure from books and from reading that I have over the years.”

A special congratulations goes to, Access to HE student, Phillipa Dorey, for winning the gingerbread man decorating competition, and Foundation Degree in Sport Coaching & Fitness Therapy student, Leanne English, for winning the ‘Grimm’ online quiz.
