Students raise over £250 for Cancer Research

On Monday 16th March, five students from the Dovestones department at Tameside College got on their bikes in aid of Cancer Research UK and raised in excess of £250.

The students used the new state of the art equipment in the College’s Sports Academy to cycle and run the equivalent of the distance from Tameside College to Blackpool Tower, a huge 58.1 miles. It took the group four and a half hours to complete the distance, which is a massive achievement for the students.

Not only was this for a worthy cause, it also allowed the students who are studying Community and Independent Living, to gain a lot of valuable experience which will help them in the future. This event helped the five students learn about team skills, health and exercise and promoting events.

Dovestones’ student, Lauren, who took part in the event commented; “It was fun to go into the new gym. Cycling was hard work but we did it.”

Dovestones is a state of the art department within Tameside College which has a wide range of specialist facilities to meet the needs of students. The provision supports learners with complex and moderate learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
