Tameside College has opened a Business Innovation Hub to enhance its delivery of skills, higher education and apprenticeships to boost the local economy.
The initiative is a result of a £7.3 million investment of 33 colleges in ‘Innovation City Regions’ in Glasgow, Greater Manchester and the West Midlands.
The Greater Manchester Innovation Programme builds the capacity of further education colleges to enhance their links with local businesses to challenge low productivity through innovation.
The Business Innovation Hub at Tameside College is led by Pam Mistry, business innovation adviser and Bhavna Parmar, business innovation co-ordinator. The team has been busy engaging employers with guided tours of college facilities and organising events to promote links to the local economy.
They will be hosting information sessions, training and creative thinking opportunities for business leaders, including:
- Business networking events and partnership workshops/events
- Drop-in sessions for further topical information
- Innovation literacy training
- Use of the I hub for 360 degree presentations and immersive learning opportunities.
Pam Mistry, said: “We have had a great response from employers who are keen to contribute to the development of the college curriculum and also benefit from the expertise and technology in the college. Visitors have been pleasantly surprised at the level of investment at the college which includes a 360 degree immersive learning environment, mechatronics workshop, nursing and childcare suites.”
