The Annual Bakery Students Conference

The Annual Bakery Students Conference is an extra curricular event which enriches our students. They have an opportunity to meet other students on Bakery programmes from all over the UK and Ireland. The event has Bakery education and training as the main focus, learners attend lectures, demonstrations and meetings. The event was held at Alton Towers this year for a whole weekend with a whole day dedicated to competitions. 

Our Bakery students managed to take home many awards for their work and demonstrations on the day. Fay Corrigan won the Mandy Wansell trophy and £50 for first prize in Danish Pastries. Harry Clegg won the Wrights Shield plus £60 for the best bread display piece. The Tameside College California Raisin Team 2010, which consisted of Rebekah Simpson, Cameron Potts, Fay Corrigan won second prize in the National Competition and a trip to Callebaut Chocolate International Company for a specialist training course. Bakery Lecturer, Steven Salt won first prize in the Sigep Bread Cup International Award and will now go forward to represent the UK in the World Cup of Baking. Finally, in the Presidents Cup, John Wallace won second prize and a trip to Moulbie UK Test Bakery to study Artisian Breads, and Umaria Fiyaz won first prize comprising of a trip to Paris to study Artisian Breads, also sponsored by Moulbie.

The highlight of the whole event was a Gala Dinner where the students had the chance to dress up and meet members of the Baking Industry. The students were great ambassadors for the College and have made many contacts and friends.
