Tameside Taxi Drivers

Tameside Taxi drivers are at the front of the queue when it comes to education.

Forty three private hire and hackney carriage drivers have achieved a Road Passenger Vehicle Driving NVQ Level 2 delivered by Tameside College. Working in collaboration with TMBC Licensing the college offered the training to help further improve the standard of service and professionalism within the trade. The NVQ tutors successfully delivered the qualification that covered modules including customer care, helping passengers with special needs, safe driving and basic vehicle maintenance.

Tameside Council Executive Member for Environmental Services, Cllr Catherine Piddington, said: “I would like to congratulate the drivers who have taken up this opportunity to develop their skills and further improve the service they offer. They have achieved a standard that other drivers now need to aspire to.”

Tameside College Principal Peter Ryder commented “The NVQ is the first programme of this nature run by the council and these drivers are in a sense the pathfinders.  We hope that it will be extended across the borough and will in time apply to all taxi drivers. We want to raise the skills and aspirations of the people who work in Tameside and we have the same ambition as the Council so we operate as total partners with the Council in that ambition”.
