French student’s work experience

French University student Valentine Le Floc’h travelled all the way from Brittany, which is in the North-West of France, spent one month working for Tameside College in all different departments across the College.

The work experience saw her improve her English each day and actively get involved in any task she was given, from Marketing, Professional Food and Hospitality, Customer Service, Community Engagement, School Links and the College’s Dovestones Department.

All the tasks that Valentine completed will help her to succeed in work back in her home town in France. A huge part of her trip was to improve her English skills as it is vital that she knows the English Language to gain employment in France.

Valentine said that she has learnt a lot from completing work experience at Tameside College, especially in the Food department where she learnt the difference between English food and French foods, and how to cook some types of English favourites.

Valentine gave staff at Tameside College an insight into how French people live and work and the difference between what is required from an employer.

Valentine also said; “The welcoming of Tameside College and her host family has given her a desire to come back because of the friendliness of the people she has met and worked alongside.”

Student Financial Support Co-Ordinator, Pauline Silk said; “This afternoon Valentine came to Student Services to work in our area as part of her work experience. It was a pleasure to work with her as her knowledge of both written and spoken English was excellent. Valentine is a confident and polite young person. I would like to take this opportunity both to thank her for the work she did and to wish her well in her future studies.”

Tameside College welcome a French student each year to help them improve working skills.
