Former student secures an animation career

Former Tameside College Animation and Computer Game Design student, Emily Harvey is proof that studying at Tameside College can help towards a successful career. Emily has secured her dream job, as an Illustrator for Oldham Chronicle.

Emily began her career at Tameside College where with the support of her tutors she progressed to the National Centre for Computer Animation at Bournemouth University. Emily chose to go to Bournemouth University as Tameside College tutor, Andy King, told her that it would be the best University to see her succeed in a career in Animation.

After achieving her degree in animation, Emily came back to her home town of Oldham, where she set up her own studio to create illustrations. Emily carries a sketch book with her at all times so that she can capture anything that inspires her.

Emily hopes that becoming an illustrator for the Oldham Chronicle will help her succeed in becoming a Character Designer in the future.

Emily said; “I loved art at school and I was constantly creating characters and stories. I realised animation was my passion so I started searching. Tameside College stood out to me instantly and meeting Andy King, the course leader, made me realise I could grow creatively at the College. It was on the course I knew that I needed to strive for the best University and that meant applying for the National Centre for Computer Animation at Bournemouth University. After a gruelling interview I found out I had received a place a week later. I graduated in November and when I returned back to Oldham I realised that I wanted to make a name for myself in my home town. That's when I contacted the Oldham Chronicle and secured the job as illustrator.”

The quality of work Tameside College Animation students produce when progressing to University has been recognised by Universities, with Gareth Hutchinson, Award Leader - BA(Hons) Computer Animation at the University South Wales saying; “We've been really impressed with the high quality of work produced by Tameside College students. Easily the best work we see from Animation/Games related BTEC programmes in the UK so congratulations for all the hard work the College and the animation team must be putting in.”
