The Tameside Hack is back

Tameside's next Hack will be bigger and better than ever. There will be bespoke career opportunities for the winning teams and more spaces available for young people than at previous events

HACK6 – a fun event where 11 to 18-year-olds face a series of coding challenges – will again be hosted by Tameside College at their cutting-edge Advanced Technologies Centre in Ashton. It takes place during half-term (February 19 and 20, 9.30am to 4pm).

The challenges are set by business sponsors who provide expert staff to mentor and judge, as well as donating prizes. Everyone who takes part gets a goody bag and lunch on both days.

Cllr Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council’s executive member for lifelong learning, said: “I can’t wait for HACK6. It’ll raise aspirations for our young people by encouraging them to get involved in coding and computing where jobs are expected to grow at double the rate of other occupations.

“It’s vital that Tameside has a workforce equipped with the skills to compete in the 21st century economy. The Tameside HACK series is a great way to achieve that aim.”

Jackie Moores, principal at Tameside College, added: “Tameside College is immensely proud to support Tameside HACK.

“As host, Tameside College can link the aspirations of young people with the coding skill requirements of regional employers.  Tameside school pupils continue to impress employers with the high quality of work and enthusiasm at this event.”

Taking part in HACK6 is free. Book your place at www.tamesidehack6.eventbrite.co.uk

So far, Brother UK, Purple, OneFile, #NoFilterNeeded, Caroo and the Rio Ferdinand Foundation have committed to sponsor HACK6, as well as InnovateHer UK confirming their role as mentoring partner. Once again, HACK6’s catering partner, Bradley’s Bakery will be providing food on both days of the event. More sponsors and challengers will be announced in the coming weeks.

A variety of sponsorship opportunities is available at different values. We’re looking for challengers, prize sponsors, media partners, mentoring partners and more. For more information, email employmentandskills@tameside.gov.uk or call 0161 342 5009.
