Business students raise money at Christmas markets

Business students at Tameside College raise £500 at the Christmas markets for national food charity, Fareshare.
The fundraising event was held at Ashton Markets on 10-11th December, with students selling cupcakes and gingerbread, plus gifts such as hot chocolate sets, pencil cases and homemade bags for life.
This year, the students raised money for FareShare, a UK based food charity, backed by ambassador and footballer Marcus Rashford.
With 8.4 million people in the UK struggling to afford to eat, FareShare’s aim is to reduce food waste and help prevent poverty. The charity distributes surplus food to charities who then turn it into meals.
Llinos Leonard, business studies teacher, said: “Our level 2 and 3 students have been working on a unit about event management. We wanted to make the end of term fun, and raise money for charity with our annual Christmas market. The students really enjoyed making the goods and working with the bakery students.”
Taiba, business student, said: “As business students we were excited and looking forward to this year’s Christmas markets. Although the markets have been different this year due to Covid-19, we have had to be innovative in our choice of products and learned from our experience last year.”
