Class of 2021 secure apprenticeships with top employers

Pre-apprenticeship students at Tameside College have secured apprenticeship roles with top engineering companies in the local area.

The pre-apprenticeship programme at the college provides training for students to progress into the world of work such as basic engineering techniques, employability, CV writing and interview skills.

Twelve of the students on the programme will begin apprenticeships with companies such as Louvelite, Swietelsky Babcock, Langfields and Park Engineering.

Their new roles will include working as CNC operators, welders and fabricators, maintenance engineers and tool makers.

Justin Strong, student at Tameside College, said: “This course has been great from start to finish, I have had the chance to learn about different aspects of engineering which has enabled me to choose a career that I know I will be happy doing. I am grateful to all of the staff for the help, training and guidance I have received and I am really pleased with the apprenticeship I have secured by doing the course.”

Simon Hesbrook, engineering assessor at Tameside College, said: “The pre-apprenticeship programme is a proven model of success, helping to build young people’s skills and provide them with excellent employment opportunities in the sector. I am proud to be involved with the project year after year and extremely pleased that we have successfully placed the students with these employers.”
