Students at Tameside College host restaurant ‘themed evenings’ with one of the top hotels in the UK.
Hospitality and catering students worked alongside Dakota Hotel Manchester’s restaurant team to deliver a taste of the establishment to guests at the college’s Restaurant at Tameside One.
Dakota Hotel, which is based in the Piccadilly area of Manchester town centre, was named in the top 25 hotels in the UK by TripAdvisor in 2021. It offers four star accommodation and an award winning bar and grill restaurant.
Diners were served an array of exciting dishes including: pork cheek and coriander scallop, pickled shimeji with beurre noisette hollandaise mushrooms, venison loin with tatare and fig and cherry and pistachio ice cream to finish.
To oversee events, Matt Townley, regional operations director and Kate Forrest, people development manager visited the college, alongside Dakota Hotel chefs and front of house staff who worked with students to prepare and serve food.
The Restaurant at Tameside One regularly hosts themed events and celebrations to give students experience of working with industry partners and to develop soft skills such as communication and teamwork.
Matt, said: “We are delighted to be in our third year of partnership with Tameside College and to be finally able to host this event. Over the years, we have benefitted from many aspects of the work of the college including hosting work experience students, direct recruitment of apprentices and many of our current employees having studied here. We are excited to see how our relationship progresses and looking forward to many more exciting partnership opportunities with Dakota Hotels and Tameside College.”
This was first such event since the onset of the pandemic and both the college and Dakota Hotel were keen to give students much needed experience.
John Holden, hospitality and catering teacher at Tameside College, said: “I am extremely proud of my students for stepping up and working to such high standards with the staff from Dakota Hotels. These events give students the opportunity to work under pressure and possibly even meet their future employers. It was fantastic to see everyone enjoy the event and I hope that we can work with Matt and his team for many years to come.”
