College celebrate adult students’ achievements

Adult students at Tameside College have been recognised for their achievements with annual awards ceremony.

The event, which took place in the college’s theatre on Thursday 16th March, was attended by award winners, their family and friends alongside principal Jackie Moores and members of the college teaching teams.

Jackie welcomed students to the event with a speech congratulating them on their efforts before presenting awards to the students.

Awards were presented across eighteen categories including: access to higher education, teaching assistants, automotive, construction, floristry and many more, with citations being read for each award winner.

Leanne Harvey, who studies access to higher education, was presented with the overall adult student award for her ‘exceptional commitment, teamwork, respect, and integrity throughout her studies, despite facing numerous challenges’.

Rahena Begum, was awarded the TACE (Tameside Adult and Community Education) overall student award for ‘massively developing her confidence skills on the programme and continuing to work hard and even help others on the course’.

Each student was presented with an award, certificate and an Amazon fire tablet, with Leanne and Rahena also receiving £20 vouchers.

Jackie Moores, principal and CEO at Tameside College, said: “It gives me great pleasure to celebrate Tameside College’s adult student of the year awards 2023. Adult learners at Tameside College are a vital aspect of our community that gives all of us great pride and satisfaction.  Many teachers and colleagues have studied in adult life and appreciate the commitment and dedication to be successful. We are grateful for the opportunity to share this moment. The college’s ethos of inclusion, equality and diversity is reflected in all the citations and achievements.
