Travel conference builds on last year’s success

Tameside College students host conference for second time after the success of last year’s event.

Travel and tourism students at the college’s Tameside One campus hosted a conference for employers in the industry on 17th May, after a hugely successful event in 2022.

The event, which was aimed at local businesses in the travel industry, was themed around the evolution of travel, tourism and the aviation industry.

The event included guest speeches by representatives from companies such as: Inspire Travel, The Wheelie Good Travel Company, Leonardo Hotels, The Institute of Travel and Tourism, Manchester Metropolitan University and Manchester Airport Group

Students organised the conference from start to finish, as part of their qualification, and included an opportunity for them to network with key employers such as Jet2 and Marriott Hotels, who recruit significantly in the local area.

The event will now form part of students’ final project, which is essential to complete their qualification at the college.

Erin Hilton, level three travel and tourism student, said: “The travel and tourism convention was an amazing opportunity for me. It was great to engage with employers from the industry and to learn about the world we are heading into, especially with the constantly changing way people travel.”

Bethany Flanagan, travel and tourism teacher at Tameside College, said: “Our Level three, second year students did an amazing job at planning and organising our travel, tourism and aviation conference 2023. We are so proud of the event and the students did us proud. The students took every opportunity to discuss the future of the industry along with listening to some fantastic guest speakers.  We are grateful to all of the organisations who gave up their time to show their support.”
