Tameside College student awarded top prize in prestigious electrical installation competition.

Robbie Barnes, an electrical apprentice at the college was recently awarded joint 1st place in the ‘SkillElectric’ competition at Burnley College and is now looking forward to a bright future in the industry.

Competitions such as these form a vital part of students’ training, broadening their technical skills beyond the classroom and developing employability skills.

Robbie said: “I really enjoyed taking part in the SkillElectric competition and I was proud to win first place, as it’s taken a lot of effort to get to this point. I can’t wait to see where my career takes me and develop my skills even further at college.”

Peter Armstrong, electrical teacher at Tameside College, said: “Robbie was selected to represent Tameside College in SkillElectric competition due to his exceptional performance during his apprenticeship and is well deserving of his first place award. I am sure that he has a fantastic career ahead of him and hope that he progresses even further. Well done Robbie.”
