Students at Tameside College celebrate the completion of their placements with presentation to NHS staff.
T-level health students at the college recently delivered a presentation to allied health professionals at Tameside Hospital showcasing the work experience they have completed and their thoughts on the programme.
Nine students from the college took part in placements across Tameside and Glossop NHS Trust, to gain experience in a real world healthcare setting.
T-levels are a new qualification, equivalent to three A-levels and combine classroom work with practical industry placements, to help students meet employer needs.
The students worked in a variety of roles, including podiatry, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, radiology, orthopedics, cardio rehab and more. During their placements, the students were also given the opportunity to complete a session in a live operating theatre, where they were taught hygiene methods and how to set up operating equipment.
Allied health professionals work alongside doctors and nurses to provide specific care and rehabilitation for patients.
Susan Smith, health teacher at Tameside College, said: “I was so proud of the students, and as their course teacher, I can see how they have developed and progressed over the academic year. Their placements and presenting to NHS staff have given them the confidence to progress to university or into work. All of the staff and delegates who worked with them couldn’t praise the students enough for their quality of work and presenting skills.”
Leonie Saxon, health T-level student at Tameside College, said: “Although I was nervous at first, I really enjoyed it. When I think about how anxious I was when I started the course, I can see how I have made lots of progress. I feel confident to move forward in my career.”
