Bakers rise to the occasion with Park Cakes

Tameside College bakery students rise to the challenge in Park Cakes innovation competition

Bakery students at Tameside College showcased their skills in a prestigious baking competition in partnership with leading confectioners, Park Cakes Bakery recently.

The event which, which place on Monday 19th May in the college’s bakery department at Tameside One, saw seventeen students compete to design and produce a cake that showcased Park Cakes’ core values of innovation and creativity.

The challenge was judged by representatives from Park Cakes, who presented prizes to the three winning students. The winning student received £500, with second and third places awarded £250 and £150 respectively, whilst the top five cake creators also earned a week long work experience placement at Park Cakes, providing invaluable insight into the baking industry.

Damian Cox, head of department for bakery at Tameside College, said: “I would like to say a massive thank you to Park Cakes for the support they gave to our students in Bakery, what a day for the students and how fantastic for them to receive such brilliant prizes. This kind of industry collaboration is key to helping students develop real world skills and gain confidence in their craft.”

Activities such as these form a key part of the students’ curriculum, helping them to gain key employability skills and prepare them for their future careers in the baking and food manufacturing industry.
