Supported internship students at Tameside College celebrate their achievements after year of success.
Students on the internship, friends, family, staff members and employers gathered at the college’s Restaurant at Tameside One on Thursday 15th May, to celebrate their graduation from the programme.
The supported internship programme gives students the opportunity to take part in work placements with a variety of local employers, whilst also studying at the college. It aims to improve students’ communication, teamwork, confidence and employability skills.
Lorna Fegan, deputy principal at Tameside College, said: “Tameside College has offered the supported internship for over ten years now and I feel really honoured to be involved with the internship programme. It really has changed the lives of young people and you can see the improvements they make day by day. Thank you to the employers who have supported the programme and a huge congratulations to those who have completed their studies.”
Each student received a certificate, trophy and voucher for their efforts, with Isabelle Kelly being awarded the prize for overall student of the year on the internship programme.
Representatives from partner, Active Tameside also attended the event, with Dan Higgins, head of health and social outcomes at Active Tameside, delivering a speech on the value of the programme. The organisation has supported students to find placements and secure paid work throughout the programme.
The programme has proved highly successful over the last decade, with many students receiving paid employment after the completion of their studies.
