Students’ travel and tourism conference takes off

Students at Tameside College host travel conference with top employers from the industry.

Level three travel and tourism students from the college, hosted the event on 22nd May in the college’s Restaurant at Tameside One.

The event included speeches by experts from the industry, a variety of travel related activities for guests to participate in such as a mock flight safety demonstration, networking opportunities and a buffet.

Guest speakers included representatives from airlines, Jet2 and Ryanair, cabin crew training provider Skypeople, airport operations company FirstCall and hotels such as Dakota and the Edwardian.

Students were tasked with organising the conference as part of their studies; giving them key skills for the industry such as organisation, confidence and event management, alongside networking with potential future employers and learning about the latest industry trends.

Cassie Claydon, travel and tourism teacher at Tameside College, said: “I'm incredibly proud of our students for the professionalism, creativity and enthusiasm they brought to this event. Organising a real world industry conference like this gives them invaluable experience and confidence that will serve them well in their future careers. It was fantastic to see them engaging directly with employers and showcasing the skills they’ve developed throughout the course.”

The travel and tourism conference has become an annual event at the college, serving as a key route into employment for many students into the industry.
