College’s renewable energy hub to lead way in green technology
Wed, 26 November 2025
With capital funding support from the Office for Students (OfS), Tameside College is launching an ambitious Renewable Energy Training Hub, designed to meet the growing demand for green skills and sustainable technologies.
Central to this development will be the installation of advanced Lab-Volt solar and wind power training systems, supplied by Didactic Services, which will give students a unique opportunity to gain hands on experience in renewable energy generation, storage, and integration.
The project will also enable investment in three state of the art 3D printers to support additive manufacturing. These will not only advance students’ technical skills but will also encourage innovation in sustainable design and production, aligning with the UK’s wider drive towards net zero. Students will be able to design, prototype and test components for renewable energy systems, helping them to connect classroom learning with real world industry practice.
The project will also provide employer engagement in training; involving industry partners to ensure skills training aligns with the needs of local employers and benefit the local community by creating opportunities for schools and other organisations to learn about the future of green technology.
The combination of renewable energy training systems and additive manufacturing equipment will strengthen Greater Manchester as a leader in low carbon innovation and position Tameside College as a key partner for employers in upskilling their workforce on degree level programmes.
The project is set to positively impact on the future careers of the young people of Greater Manchester, transitioning from level three courses into higher education. By underpinning high-quality teaching and training with industry standard equipment, students and partners in Tameside can move confidently into a greener future for all.
Jackie Moores, Principal and CEO of Tameside College, said: “This investment marks an exciting step forward for Tameside College and for the borough. By embedding cutting edge renewable energy technologies and advanced manufacturing into our curriculum we are giving our students the skills, confidence and hands on experience they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Our new Renewable Energy Training Hub will not only support local employers and the transition to green energy, but it will also inspire the next generation of engineers and specialists. We are proud to be leading the way in shaping a sustainable, high-tech future for the region.”
