You will learn through a variety of teaching methods which will aim to meet the needs of each individual and accommodate different learning styles - for example: visual learning; role plays; group work; practical work; class projects; spoken, written and listening work; interactive activities.

Throughout the course you will have 12 sessions in total. The content will include: the alphabet and numbers; giving personal information; daily routine; health, body parts, making appointments; house and home environment; giving directions; food and shopping.
If you are someone that is learning English for the first time, but you have familiarity with the Roman alphabet – this course is for you. Understanding and speaking English is vital to our lives living in England. This is the starting point, where you will gain the skills necessary to take the next steps in your journey to communicate in English in all areas. This practical course will give you the knowledge and skills to understand the fundamentals of the English language; before moving forward and developing further.

●  You will undertake two morning or afternoon sessions per week over a six-week period.

●  You will build on your ability to recognise, read, write and say individual letters and words. This will include expanding your core vocabulary across a variety of topics.

●  You will also use the vocabulary learned in class to build simple sentences, that will not only be of use outside the classroom; they will lay the framework for you to scaffold more complex sentences as your ability with the English language continues to develop.

●  By the end of the course, you will be familiar with the format that the following courses take – and have the confidence and ability to participate in those higher levels.

●  You will get the opportunity to continue to the following ESOL courses offered by the college and – ultimately – access further/higher education or gain employment.
Pre-entry Level (Foundation)

●  You will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods including discussions, displays, presentations, written, spoken and listening work and practical assessments.
