This course format is 60% practical and 40% theory delivered in the evening for 3 hours a week over a 5-week period.

Course content – Candidates who successfully complete the qualification should be able to-

●  Identify high voltage components and make a hybrid or electric vehicle safe to work on, so that routine service procedures can be safely completed.

●  Understand Ohms law and vehicle electrical circuits and perform checking procedures to ensure an Electric vehicle is safe to work.

●  Explain the different types of Hybrid and Electric Vehicle. For example ‘extended rang, parallel and series drives’.

●  Describe the main components of Hybrid vehicle (HV), Electric Vehicle (EV) and Plugin Hybrid and Electric Vehicle (PHEV).

●  Identify risks of high voltages- AC/DC, and understand the control of the invertors, regenerative braking systems, drive trains and transmission systems.

●  Demonstrate how to stay safe through shut down procedures for many makes of vehicles and understand the importance of manufactures' information.

This course comprises of a combination of theory using our latest digital platforms such as LJ Create and hands-on practical sessions where you will work with highly trained teachers on real electric vehicles and the latest training rigs in our newly designed Hybrid Technology suite. This level will give you the ‘Electrically Informed Person’ (EIP) level of competence.
This course is for candidates who would like to upskill themselves regarding the safety precautions to be taken when working on or near a high voltage hybrid vehicle. It contains the knowledge and skills required to work safely around an electric vehicle that may have sustained damage to the high voltage electrical system. Therefore, this applies not only to automotive technicians, but also to accident repair technicians and vehicle recovery drivers or emergency service personel. Vehicle damage assessors may also find this course useful.
Assessment will be through safe completion of tasks to the desired standards via observations and a mandatory written assignment set by City and Guilds.

On successful completion of this course candidates will be awarded certification from City and Guilds.
Upon successful completion of this course, you may be able to progress to the Level 3 Award in Hybrid Vehicle Repair and Replacement.
