Level 1 Introduction to Public Services

The course is designed to help develop the skills and qualities you would need to work in the Public Services in the future. The level 1 course introduces you to a range of different topics and challenges and prepares you to move onto the level 2 course. You will experience a range of activities including classroom based learning, physical fitness training, outdoor and adventurous activities along with some work experience events with a range of Public Service organisations. Throughout the course you will study 10 units in total. These include:

Developing a progression plan, physical fitness, map reading & navigation, sports and adventurous activities, finding out about Public Services and contributing to the community.
You will be taught by a number of tutors with real life Public Service experience and a Progress Tutor who will specifically look after your pastoral and study programme needs. The course requires you to wear a uniform and incorporates core skills such as drill (marching) teamwork & leadership, communication skills, fitness and problem solving.

On your course you will be able to meet and interact with the police, the fire & rescue service, our armed forces and this could take the form of guest speakers giving information about the jobs and roles or practical activities where you get to see the kit and equipment they use.

Students may get the opportunity to take part in residential trips throughout the course so if you may want to consider spending some time away with the Royal Marines, the British Army or the Royal Navy to see what life is really like on a military base then this could be the course for you.

At the end of the year we have our annual passing out parade where you get to showcase your skills to your parents and our VIP guests.
