Level 3 Public Services

This course aims to develop the skills and qualities needed for a career in the Uniformed Services. You will engage in various activities such as classroom learning, physical fitness training, outdoor adventures, and a comprehensive work experience program with different Uniformed Service organizations. The following units are delivered across 2 years (if you complete the full Extended Diploma:)

Year 1

· Prepare for a Career

· Develop Aspects of Fitness

· Develop Leadership Skills

· Uniformed Services Hierarchy & Routine

· Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

· Map Reading & Navigation

· Understand Conflict Management & Personal Protection

· Volunteering in the UPS

· Emergency Planning & Response

Those students who stay to complete the second year of study (to achieve the full Extended Diploma) study will complete a further 9 units including:

· Crime Scene Investigation

· Outdoor Activities

· Mental & Physical wellbeing.
You will be taught by tutors with real-life experience in the Uniformed Services, along with a Progress Tutor dedicated to support your pastoral and study needs. Assessments will be diverse, including group discussions, posters, report writing, presentations, photographic and video evidence, and practical outdoor assessments. There are no formal exams for this course.

The course features a comprehensive work experience program involving organizations like the British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Royal Marines, Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service, and guest speakers, including former students now serving in the Uniformed Services.

Students may have the chance to participate in residential trips, offering a glimpse into life on a military base with the Royal Marines, British Army, or Royal Navy. In addition to this we work closely with the police and take part in public order training on a regular basis.

Students will wear a uniform which is looks similar to what our police officers currently wear including boots which are suitable for our outdoor and off-site activities.
Applicants need 4 GCSEs at level 4 or above, including Maths or English Language. A pre-course interview is required. Candidates should be enthusiastic about a career in the Uniformed Services and fully engage with all aspects of the study program which includes:

Upon successful completion, you can progress to:

· Move into Higher Education at University

· Apply to join the Uniformed Service of your choice including:

The Armed Forces

The Emergency Services

Part or full-time work in other areas
