A Level Physics
Course content & format
A-level Physics explores the fundamental principles that govern the universe, from classical mechanics to cutting-edge modern physics. At Clarendon College, you’ll follow the AQA A-level Physics specification, including the Turning Points option.
Key Topics Include:
· Measurements and their errors
· Particles and radiation
· Waves
· Mechanics and materials
· Electricity
· Further mechanics and thermal physics
· Fields and their consequences
· Turning Points in Physics (a deep dive into pivotal discoveries like the electron, wave-particle duality, and special relativity)
Lessons are delivered through a mix of teacher-led explanation, class discussions, worked examples, demonstrations, and hands-on practicals.

How is this course assessed?
Assessment is entirely exam-based at the end of the second year:
Paper 1 (34%) Covers: Topics 1–5 + some practical skills
Paper 2 (34%) Covers: Topics 6–8 + further practical skills
Paper 3 (32%)
· Section A: Practical skills and data analysis
· Section B: Turning Points in Physics (Option Unit)
You’ll also complete 12 required practicals, assessed through written exams and teacher observation as part of the Practical Endorsement (reported separately).

A-level Physics is a gateway to a wide range of university degrees and career paths. Graduates commonly go on to study:
